I spent most of my playtime with Diablo 3 Eternal Collection in handheld mode, and this is the second opportunity the Nintendo Switch has to flex its flexibility. With a little bit of practice, you can quickly aim at specific targets in a group of hellspawn. This allows you to carefully choose where your abilities hit home. Targetting attacks and actions isn’t as accurate as on PC, but the joy-con thumbsticks are surprisingly sensitive. Playing on a single joy-con isn’t the optimal way to play, but is entirely functional if you choose to let others in for some slaying. The joy-con, or pro controller, configuration is easy to get to grips with and is laid out logically.
Even at its busiest, and Diablo can get pretty hectic, I experienced no slowdown in handheld or docked mode. Thankfully, Diablo 3 Eternal Collection plays superbly on the Switch. While it’s all well and good having so much to play, you need a reason to want to play it. Anybody who owns a Switch is already set up for co-op play as you can use each joy-con separately. Where the Switch rises above all others is the fact that up to four players can team up on the same Switch console. Naturally, online play is there allowing you to link up with others and tackle the dungeons of Diablo 3 with players from all over the world. That isn’t even including the multiplayer components which give the first chance for the Nintendo Switch to show off. Seriously, you can’t ask for anything more. Let’s not forget that Diablo 3 features entirely procedurally generated dungeons and loot, so no two playthroughs will ever really be the same. There really is no other title out there at the moment which packs in so much single-player value. The Rise of the Necromancer pack adds the Necromancer class along with heaps of other content updates and inclusions. Add to that the incredible Reaper of Souls expansion which adds the Crusader class and another 8 hours of campaign. Of course, you get the entire base Diablo 3 game with its 20-hour single-player campaign per character, and 5 character classes. First off, let’s look at the absolutely devilish deluge of content you’re getting for your money.
